Organizing everything on your Personal Computer

without comments

Here is the scenario that is reenacted time and again in this country.  You finally accept the need for a new computer and you bite the bullet and get the best one you can afford.  You begin installing applications and you cannot locate CDs, installation instructions, etc.   This leads to lost authorization codes and the like.   This simply means that you – like most people – do not have a very organized use of or control of your PC.  This is an issue not just involving the reinstallation of applications on a new computer but in everyday operations.   The best avoidance of these problems is to get organized.   This is not technical organization like software techies – just smart organization.

Start by organizing the applications on your PC.  Whether purchased or pre-installed, all the applications running on your PC will have documentation and user authorizations that you should keep in a safe, organized and accessible place.  Make sure that you copy and save all passwords, user IDs and 25-Digit Authorization Codes.  You should store all these important pieces of data in handwritten copy and onboard your PC.   If you need them they will be easily accessible.   That goes for User IDs and Passwords as well as email logons.   It is just smart business to do this.  Finally, in this category of codes and access, make sure that you set up your access to all privileged systems with auto-login and stay-logged in whenever your privacy will allow it.  This will provide more increases in productivity.

The final and primary category is in regard to storing data and application access.  Ensure that you have an icon launch on the desktop for all regularly used applications.   Make sure, also, that you have provided for adequate data file backup.

The last category is how your data is stored.  Many people have never even given any thought to this issue – typically allowing – for instance – Word to store your documents based on the first 22 characters or 5 words.  You should always organize and identify your data with planned, labeled and numbered folders and store them by date within application.  Then, when you need to access them in the future you will be able to do so quickly and efficiently.

Lastly, make sure you install a good virus protection system.   Make sure you run a quality Windows registry package.  You can purchase and download a top registry software package that does this and also performs the other registry fix functions that accomplish any needed Registry Repair after the backup operation.
