If you visit several sites routinely, RSS allows you to read the latest content from your favored sites (if they syndicate content) without visiting each site individually. You can keep up with news that’s important to you without browsing or searching for information. News aggregator or feed reader software checks the RSS feeds on your sites regularly and shows you the new items from all the sites in one central location.
If you are a webmaster, RSS helps you increase traffic to your site and gather and distribute news. Publishers benefit from web feeds because they syndicate content automatically.

An RSS document –called RSS feed, web feed, channel, or feed-includes the full text, headlines, or a summary of each article. RSS is written in the Internet coding language referred to as XML (eXtensible Markup Language). RSS buttons are commonly labeled with the letters XML in an orange box.

You need an RSS reader in order to take advantage of RSS. Some browsers, including the latest versions of Safari and Firefox, have RSS readers built in. If your browser doesn’t have a built in RSS reader, you can download one of the dozens available on the web. Some are free while others must be purchased.
Now it might be argued that it would be better if they came by your blog – which is true – but you have to accept that most people aren’t going to do that with any regularity. It’s also a good idea to have a newsletter so you can get in touch and market to them directly (more on that in another article).
However, good craft marketing means taking advantage of every opportunity to get your message in front of your potential customer and RSS is not only fast and easy but once set up requires no further involvement from you – it automatically sends out new post information every time you write one
